Sudden Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States and can occur in any individual. There are 250,000 to 450,000 sudden cardiac arrests each year in the United States and AED's are the only form of treatment. In Sudden Cardiac Arrest, survival is directly linked to the amount of time between cardiac arrest and defibrillation. Chances of survival may decrease up to 10 percent for every minute without CPR or defibrillation.
Anyone can be trained to operate an AED. They are safe, provide verbal directions, automatically analyze a victim's heart rhythm and only deliver a shock when needed.
