Require background checks and drug screening for politicians and their staff

We the people demand that government officials be held to the same standards expected for the citizens. Any politician, bureaucrat , or person wishing to intern or work as an aide, consultant or in any capacity in every branch of government and its many departments should be required to pass a federal background check and drug screening. Any person wishing to represent the people in Congress, the courts or the Executive branches of the US Federal Government and receive the benefits for which we work our lives to pay, should have to pass both before they write one regulation , pass one law or take any oath. If the president is being truthful about wanting "fairness" this would put the American people at ease.Citizens have to pass these before working for the government, so should lawmakers.
