Mass shootings have become an epidemic and every day US citizens are less safe. Background checks are an easy way to help keep weapons out of the hands of people with a history of violence, instability, and relevant mental health issues. Just about any employer requires a background check before they will hire you. It's not unreasonable to put the same restriction on a weapon that can take dozens of lives within seconds. This problem has gone too far and it's time we start protecting our citizens by refusing to arm clearly violent individuals.
