require banks to participate in the "short refi" program, enabling homeowners to refinance "underwater" mortgages.

Created by C.S. on November 10, 2011

A year ago in September, the Obama Administration launched a "short refi" program. This was to allow homeowners to refinance their homes even if they were "underwater," that is, they could refinance even if they owed more than their home was worth. The banks were supposed to "voluntarily" reduce at least 10% of the principal for these homeowners. Remember that we, the homeowners, bailed these banks out with $700 billion of our tax dollars. Now, they have refused to "participate" in the short refi program. Sign this petition if you think the short refi program should be MANDATORY for bailed out banks, rather than voluntary. None of them are participating in this voluntary program. If they were made to participate, it would go a long way toward fixing our economy. Please sign!
