Former Vice President Dick Cheney was arguably the chief architect of the Iraq War, a fools errand that cost hundreds of thousands of lives, destroyed the United States' reputation around the world, and cost taxpayers' trillions of dollars.
Cheney not only lied and manipulated intelligence to con a supplicant Congress into authorizing the war, he profited handsomely from the war effort and the private contracts that were steamrolled through Congress to support it.
Cheney also was the mastermind behind the use of torture, one of the darkest events ever to stain the pages of American history.
He is a war criminal and a war profiteer who should be in federal prison, not celebrated in the Capitol Visitor Center. His statue should be an exercise in the public shaming he richly deserves.
