In recent years there has been a noticeable decline in our representatives and federal elected candidates knowledge of American history and civics. Its very disconcerting to hear and read constant misinterpretaions of historical events and people. In order to be able to serve this country effectively, one must have a clear understanding our history. It is hypocritcal and unfair to require this for those applying for citizenship(who will not be able to hold office), yet not requiring the same competency as a prerequsite for those attempting to hold Federally elected office.
Introduce legislation to add a History and Civics competency requirement to what is currently in place.
