On streets and freeways, drivers can see the rear brake lights of cars ahead of them. However, the dangerous absence of brake light indicators on the front of vehicles results in thousands of traffic accidents every year. For example, when turning left on a yellow light, a driver must guess if an oncoming car will speed through. With frontal break lights, the left-turning driver can safely determine whether or not the approaching car is braking to a stop. Also, when a driver stops or slows rapidly and unexpectedly at a light, sign or in traffic, the fore-warning of not seeing frontal brake lights in his rear view mirror allows a driver to honk or pull quickly out of an inattentive driver's way. To save lives, the government should require new car models to incorporate front brake lights.
