Thousands of injuries and possibly hundreds of deaths occur each year due to texting or speaking on cell phones while driving. GPS technology exists (and perhaps gyroscope technology in some cell phones) to determine if the cell phone is in motion/movement sufficient to determine walking and driving speeds. Consumers and concerned individuals (e.g. parents) should have the capability to disable text messaging notifications as well as incoming voice call notifications while driving, walking, or riding a bicycle.
An application could be designed to intercept these notifications effectively disabling these capabilities but would be vastly more effective if built into the phone's OS or simply supported through the Mobile carrier's digital messaging and call systems.
