require child consent before orthodontists install braces.

Created by E.C. on January 24, 2014

We would definitely require parent consent before applying a tattoo or other permanent image-altering move, so doesn't it seem clear that braces should be required to have child's consent. Braces are a permanent (for the most part) change, and it can be unwanted. Orthodontist work can severely damage teeth, and the majority of children want straight teeth, but for the ones that doesn't, this is taken as not having a right to their own decisions later on in life (seeing that they cannot reverse the braces.) This is not an issue similar to enforcing unwanted haircuts on kids, hair grows back, but teeth however, cannot safely and legally revert to their previous state. This is not a laughable issue, people can lose all their teeth from orthodontist work gone wrong.
