Require COLI policy holders to tell the employee how much they plan to receive and provide the family with a percentage

Created by K.F. on April 30, 2013

Daniel Johnson was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2001, at which time he was unable to qualify for life insurance; however, his company was fully able to qualify. Daniel Johnson was notified of the COLI policy but was never informed that the company would receive $1.6 million after his death in 2008, nor did he know that his wife would never see a dime of that money. While Companies are required to inform their employees of COLI policies taken out on them, they are not required to inform the employee of the amount they anticipate receiving, thus having more freedom to take advantage of their employees. I feel the employee has a right to know before agreeing to the policy and should be guaranteed that a portion of that money will go to their family.
