Companies should be required to let the public know when they have modified a photo of a person for the purpose of selling a product. Too often, models' faces and bodies are photoshopped to look more attractive and/or thinner. This type of activity only perpetuates poor body image expectations in American culture. While the photoshopping itself will not stop anytime soon, it is important that people--especially young boys and girls--understand when a photo has been altered to appear more "appealing" to our social and cultural standards of beauty. By requiring companies to label digitally altered images as such, we can create a better awareness of the difference between advertised body image and true human features.
