All over the world men, women, and children spend long hours working in often hazardous conditions for very little pay. They sometimes work 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week for just mere cents doing labor intensive work. These children often never have the chance for an education, and their parents are never able to bring them out of poverty. When workers attempt to organize to ask for better conditions or higher pay, they are often fired.
We, as consumers in The United States have an obligation and a desire to ensure that the goods we buy are produced in sustainable and ethical ways. We ask congress to help us by ensuring that all companies make labor and average pay a matter of public record.
We fought for labor rights in our own country, it's time to expand them with the market.
