A government shutdown suspends the pay of a wide array of government employees but Congress, by their own vote, have been excluded from this suspension and are considered "essential services." Members of Congress get paid $174,000 per year. This is a very generous salary compared to the thousands of employees who are paid much less and must go without pay until Congress can resolve their issues and once again fund the government. This is an outrage to hardworking Americans whose lives and families should come before petty politics.
