require Congress to place cuts on their salaries and benefits commensurate with any cuts to Social Security or Medicare

If Congress deems the economic environment of the U.S.A. to be in such a state that they require cuts to Social Security and Medicare in order to put our fiscal house in order, they should be required to implement across the board cuts of their own salaries and benefits packages of 10% for every 1% of cuts they impose on the Social Security and Medicare recipients. After all, they are our leaders and should lead from the front. If cuts are really necessary to help balance the budget then they should be willing to take the cuts for the benefit of the country.
