The absence of meaningful campaign finance reform has allowed Congress to be controlled by wealthy corporate interests. Through the use of soft money, 527s, and 501(c)(4)s, special interests and corporations have exploited candidates' dependency on private campaign financing, and in the process, transformed our representative democracy into a plutocracy.
If Congress continues to refuse to reform campaign finance laws, then it should admit to corporate control and publicly display the interests it truly represents. After all, if there is nothing illegal or immoral about their corporate sponsorship, representatives should have nothing to hide. If they are proud of the corporations they serve, they should have no problem wearing their sponsors' logos.
