While there is no cure for autism it is treatable. In 2012, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) determined there is enough evidence behind the use of ABA therapy to deem it a medical service for children with autism. Without insurance coverage, some families spend more than $50,000 per year on autism-related therapies, such as ABA, putting this life-changing therapy outside the financial reach of most Americans. At least 31 states require insurers to provide coverage for the treatment of autism - but OPM has not required that this evidence-based, effective treatment be covered by plans offered to Federal Employees. Help these children and their families access the care they need by requiring ABA coverage in Federal Employee Health Benefit (FEHB) plans.
