Require credit card companies to supply a reason to the credit bureaus for any negative change to your line of credit.

I received a letter the other day from a well known chain stating that as of a certain date, I had not used my charge card.in 10 months. They threatened to reduce my line of credit if I did not make a purchase with them by April 1st. They warned me that I should make a purchase to "protect my line of credit."

What they didn't mention was that I had, in fact used my card for a purchase that very day in January. It was a blatent attempt to scare me into buying from them.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that I pulled a credit score last week for the first time in years in anticipation of a refinance. A reduction in my line of credit would hurt my FICO score. If they do reduce a line of credit, they should be required to report that it is from lack of use; not creditworthiness.
