Currently, it is required by most creditors that a Social Security number as well as other personal information be presented so that the creditor can request a credit history report.
Unfortunately, this process is outdated and allows for fraudulent creation of credit accounts by persons who have illicitly obtained or used another person's information.
The President should support legislation that requires credit reporting agencies to establish a modern secure means of requesting a report to potential creditors and consumers.
In particular, such credit reporting requests should not be based on an unmalleable piece of information such as a Social Security number or even biometrics.
This would allow consumers affected by a breach of their information to re-secure their credit history.
