Soda companies are afraid that if they display how much sugar is in their product compared to how much you should have in a day they will lose business. Added sugars shouldn't make up more than 5% of the energy (calorie intake) you get from food and drink each day. This is about 30g of sugar a day for those aged 11 and over ( http://www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/1139.aspx?categoryid=51 ). Personally before I learned this I was putting about 7 grams of sugar in my morning tea by the time I was done. It is proposed that all food manufacturers are required to label their products with the daily value percentage.
