The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) each year sets limits on the amounts of opioid narcotics that pharmaceutical companies are allowed to produce in the next year. Since 1993, the DEA has increased these quotas almost every year. For example, oxycodone production was capped at 3,520 kilograms in 1993, but by 2015, 137,500 kilograms were authorized. In light of the epidemic of addiction to prescription painkillers, we petition the President to require the DEA to stop increasing this quota.
