Every year thousands of service members are sexually assaulted, raped and harassed by other service members. Too often these crimes are buried and justice is never served. The guilty are permitted to continue their service while the victims are punished and forced out of the service often times with no benefits. This pattern of misconduct in all branches of service must be stopped and the victims are well past due some form of justice or compensation. The president needs to take an active role in ending this behavior in the armed forces by punishing commanders who allowed these crimes to be buried and covered up. Commanders who fought for victims should be rewarded. Sexual assault, harrassment and rape should not be a part of service to the country.
