require an energy audit, with a blower door test, for all federally-back home mortgages.

Created by G.W. on February 09, 2013

More than 40% of the energy consumed in the U.S. is for homes and buildings, much of it for heating and cooling. Any national energy policy must address this sector of energy consumption. Providing prospective home buyers information about the efficiency of a prospective home will go much further than tax incentives to reduce this demand. The average home has air leaks equivalent to a 3 square foot hole open 24/7. In addition to creating jobs to perform the audits, the insulation and air sealing work would also create local jobs. Reduced utility costs for the homeowner, reduced energy demand and consumption, more work in the local community. Win-win all around.
