Since most people just like to hear their own voices sounding like they "care" about people they don't know and issues they've been told they should support, let's make people have to really put up with time and money. Your Facebook status is nice, but it doesn't really prove anything other than your narcissism and your need for affirmation. Likewise, these petitions are simply piling onto the already ridiculous volume of self-righteous blather on the internet. Since most people know that the White House is not going to take action on any of these petitions, let's at least find a way to make the insatiable desire to show what wonderful people we are profitable and meaningful to organizations that don't waste their time displaying their "status" and accumulating "likes."
