3 changes to package labels that benefit all consumers:
1. All products that require an "expiration" date must print them in a prominent position, on the label and/or container and must be large enough and bold enough to be easily read by all.
2. If there are multiple items in a package, each individual item must be stamped with the date, as well. Example: a 6 pack of pudding must have each individual pudding cup stamped with the expiration date, so if the carton is discarded, the date will still be available.
3. Standardize the language and designate one term to be used, industry wide. That term should be "Expiration Date".
(Not "use by". Not "sell by". Not "best by".)
And the "expiration date" = the last day that a perishable product will be fit for consumption, be it human or animal.
