According to the CDC nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men are raped at some point in their life. In addition over 42% of female rape victims were first raped under the age of 18. An additional 37.4% of female rape victims were first raped between the ages of 18 and 24 - traditional college level ages. Since no institutional level requirements exist to provide rape and sexual assault education in our schools we are asking the President to address this problem by making this a requirement to any middle, high school, or higher education institution that receives federal funding. Such education would cover topics such as consent, date rape, partner rape, and other topics qualified experts agree upon. Education offers our best hope for combating the epidemic of rape and sexual assault in America
