September 11, 2001 was a tragedy in American history, and has impacted the safety of Americans to this day. This petition is asking that all public, private and charter schools in all 50 states plus D.C. perform at least one fire drill and at least one lockdown/intruder drill on September 11 if that day falls on a school day (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). Having a fire drill and lockdown drill on September 11 will help familiarize kids with safety procedures. These drills must be unannounced unless the school is Elementary Education or Special Education. The one minimum required fire drill for this day may be counted toward the already-monthly required. It is also encouraged that teachers and principals go over how the kids did during the drills after they conclude.
