Accidents: Between December 2012 to December 2013, at least 100 children were killed in unintentional shootings. Children accidentally shoot their parents, their siblings and themselves. Guns need to be kept locked up and safe at all times to protect children.
Theft: Guns are too easily stolen by criminals. An annual average of 232,400 guns were stolen during burglaries and other property crimes in the six-year period from 2005 through 2010. Secure gun storage would keep guns in safe hands.
Make it a felony to negligently store or leave a firearm where a child under 18 or a thief may gain access to it. Hold gun owners liable for improper and insecure storage of their weapons in the event they are stolen and used to kill or injure others.
Effective gun storage will reduce gun violence.
