We have the technology to ensure that only the registered owner of a firearm is allowed to fire it. Then we can truly focus on making sure that only qualified, responsible persons are given access to weapons. This would protect me from being shot with my own gun by a thief. Such a gun could be sold--after the buyer has a background check--by updating the accepted fingerprint. Use gun buy-back programs to get all other weapons out of circulation.
