The FDA should be required to label both processed and raw food products that possess genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
While about 70% of a supermarket’s food contains GMOs, only a few people are aware of its marketing. In all, 94% of 600 Americans surveyed said they favored GMO labeling and wanted to know what was in their food.
GMO labeling would also benefit the United States by encouraging trade among other foreign countries. Currently, the European Union, Japan, China, Korea, and New Zealand require mandatory labeling of such products. If American products were labeled, trade between these countries would be easier.
American citizens and their families deserve to know what they are consuming. This goal can only be achieved if the FDA is required to label GMO products.
