require food nutrition labels to also display the information in the form of a QR code to allow for automated analysis.

In addition to the current food nutrition labels, consumer food packaging should also be required to include that same information encoded in a QR code (or other easily scannable format). This would allow for simple automated analysis of nutrition information through the use of smartphones or other devices. Applications could be developed that utilize this data and allow consumers to easily track their daily nutrition intake. By simplifying this process, consumers can be more aware of their dietary habits and, as a result, make healthier choices.
