In the U.S. alone between 40% to 50% of food is wasted. This is equivalent to a loss of about $165 billion in revenue. Much of this food is wasted because of blemishes and imperfections that don't even affect how edible it is.
Instead of discarding this food as no good, grocery suppliers and distributors should be required to sell or donate this produce. One possibility is that they could sell it at a reduced price to consumers. If some produce doesn't sell, then it could be given to food pantries. This would allow the U.S. to not waste resources and help our economy.
