Require hospitals, doctors, and vendors to post, online, fees for each billing 'code' and include a 'compare' feature.

Created by R.R. on July 07, 2012

Hospitals, doctors, and other medical vendors should be required to post online their fees for each medical code and for procedures. The website should have a 'compare' feature, where fees for codes and procedures could be 'shopped' by the consumer after viewiing a comparison chart. For example, consumers could search for the fees for an appendectomy in ZIP code 12345. The website would list the doctor and hospital and vendor codes for that procedure as well as possible other codes usually associated with it. These code are already digitized and providers know what they charge/claim for each code, so production of a comparison shopping website is very doable. The effect will be to drive down fees & to solve the mystery of never seeing any billing or co-pay information until after service
