Require insurance and Medicaid coverage of home births for qualifying women utilizing a trained midwife.

Created by C.R. on December 31, 2011

Home births are safe alternatives to hospital and birth center births when the mother is low risk and attended by a trained midwife. Home births put lower costs on the healthcare system and result in healthier mothers and babies. The primary expense to the healthcare system is birth. Cesarean section rates are extravagant and dangerous in this country and women should have the right to insurance coverage for all available legal birth options. Where home birth with a trained midwife is a legal option, insurance and Medicaid should be required to cover this expense as it does other childbirth options that are more costly and invasive.
