Soldiers/veterans have a higher divorce rate than civilians. Over 35% of soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq are deemed as disabled. VA disability claims often take at least TWO YEARS to finalize due to the back log. Child support is based upon previous income and pending VA disability claims are ignored---even if the soldier/veteran cannot maintain that income level. The result is 65% wage garnishment for arrearage, suspended drivers' license which often hurts employment prospects as well as visitation and eventual incarceration. Meanwhile, the pending VA disability claim continues to be ignored while the vulnerable veteran/soldier potentially becomes homeless while living on 35% income, assuming any sustainable income is maintained.
