Currently there are no federal requirements that medical service providers such as hospitals, doctors, labs etc. services disclose upfront what they charge for services. Most consumers if they are shopping for medical services, or attempting to get price quotes before a medical procedure, can not establish what the price list is for such procedure. If you walked into a store and want to purchase a product or service, you would be provided a price before your purchase of it. This petition is to require medical providers, hospitals, labs, and doctors to provide price for services, and medical billing codes, which currently seems to be a national secret, just try to decode your hospital bill. I would also request a consumer patient advocate provided for medical advice and billing help.
