The training and certification for Law Enforcement Officers varies from State to State with most states putting very little emphasis on Domestic Violence Training, even though those type of calls make up the majority of patrol calls.
In Florida, all certified officers must complete 40 hours of training every four years to maintain their certification. This is how Florida advises officers to learn about Violence in the Home: "Domestic Violence (no minimum hour requirement).
Today a video was released showing a Missouri cop telling an audience, after a 35 year career, his feelings on DV. He said “Don’t be a waste of cops’ time,” Officer Page says. “Just shoot each other and get it done.”
Federal Guidelines must be implemented to protect victims from officers who are not properly trained.
