Require lawmakers to have experience in matters they wish to legislate.

Created by O.S. on February 22, 2016

All too often, lawmakers at all levels attempt to legislate SNAP, unemployment assistance and other desperately needed services for lower-income households, without having any experience of what a family endures while receiving these benefits.

Shouldn't a lawmaker know what it's like to be forced to live on food stamps? On unemployment?

We, the undersigned, call upon elected officials at every level of government to experience the need for these benefits before making decisions which affect many of our neediest citizens.

Furthermore, we challenge ALL lawmakers to voluntarily have their assets frozen for a three month period during which these benefits will be their sole source of income. We believe that this will foster a greater understanding between them and their constituents.
