Full-time employees should not live in poverty.
Due to inflation, the minimum wage has dramatically decreased in purchasing value over the past three decades. Over half of the "Newly created jobs" since 2008 are low paying jobs, this is a national crisis. Also, many businesses avoid their responsibilities by hiring part-time employees and independent contractors.
The minimum adult hourly wage should be set to the annual poverty level for a family of three divided by 2000. For businesses with over 50 employees (including independent contractors and part-time employees), the hourly minimum wage should be 20% higher for part-time employees and 33% higher for independent contractors.
This change should be phased in over a five year period to protect the economy.
