A lot of the mass shootings we are plagued with recently have been perpetrated by mentally unstable people who may pass a criminal background check. A large percentage of these shooters have either been on, or withdrawing from prescription anti-depressants, mood elevators, ADHD medications as well as illegal street drugs. Instead of attacking gun owner rights, require drug testing, deny purchases, seize firearms from owners who fail random drug screens. The US has always been a gun owning country, but since the 1980s or when funding for mental health was cut drastically, doctors began prescribing these dangerous drugs like never before. The possible side effects on many of them are listed as depression, suicidal/homicidal thoughts. People who take these drugs should not have access to guns
