For far too long our volunteer military has carried the burden of an everlasting military conflict as a result of the lack of connect with the majority of Americans. Unlike wars of the past there has been no surtax or a military service draft of ordinary Americans for our longest conflict in American history. At any given time 1.4 million active duty servicemen and women repeatedly deploy, are involuntarily extended and die in wars that are out of sight out of mind to the majority of Americans. To insure that this government and future lawmakers never again commit to a war that does not effect all Americans we the people require a military service draft and a war surtax in all future military operations lasting longer than 18 months or requiring the deployment of over 50,000 troops.
