These days, we are — all of us — just damned busy. It takes a special sort of crazy to imagine that it's fair that polls open from 7am to 7pm on a single day — or even 7am to 7pm for just a week — give conscientious but hardworking Americans adequate time to vote.
Our interstate mobility means we don't always know the intricacies of our current local voting rules. And even we do, state legislatures constantly tinker with the definition of the voting period.
We must have a generous, federal standard for voting times — something Art I Sec 4 and Art II Sec 1 of the Constitution explicitly gives the federal government power to define.
We urge the Administration to submit legislation which compels all states to offer a minimum 15-day voting period.
