The age of the average American farmer is almost 59 years old. That is a generation that should be retiring, but cannot because the general public is generally uneducated when it comes to Agriculture and the younger generations are not going into the industry. Many students do not realize the importance or the potential for work in the Ag Industry. Many high schools already offer several ag classes, but they are classified as electives. I believe that at least one basic Ag class (where students would learn about everything from GMOs to how dairy cattle are raised and how to grow a basic garden) should be a requirement to earn a high school diploma.
