Require Physicians to report patients diagnosed with serious mental illness in support of existing Federal Gun Laws.

Created by D.D. on January 19, 2013

Under existing Federal Law 18 U.S.C. § 922(d), it is unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person “has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution.”

Enforce this law, already on the books, by requiring Physicians and other medical personnel, to report patients that have been diagnosed with serious mental illness or have been committed to any mental institution. Also require them to adequately treat mentally ill patients with a history of violence through Assisted Outpatient Treatment (court ordered outpatient treatment).
