Plants native to a region are more likely to survive harsh changes in the weather such as drought or cold. By planting native trees and plants at project sites funded in part, or in full by the federal government we can cut costs for landscaping as well as use the sites as models for how native plant life can be used to better our cities and towns. Furthermore, by encouraging communities to make conscious efforts to remove invasive plants we can also help reduce water consumption, improve competition between species, and amplify the diversity of different plants in many parts of the nation.
