The USPS is about to default on it's required payments into it's health care program. There is continued talk about service cuts, layoffs, and office closings.
Yet bulk mailers, who send you 100s of useless fliers, catalogues, and other items of junk mail every year pay a heavily subsidized rate to do so.
The USPS' OWN figures indicate it actually takes a LOSS handling "bulk mail". Bulk mailers pay only 14 cents per item, as opposed to the current 40+ cents for first class mail. Again, by the Postal Services OWN figures, bulk mail rates need to rise 22% at a minimum just to reach the "break even" point.
As the Post Office, like the military, IS a Constitutionally mandated government function, we need to protect and preserve it's ability to do it's appointed job.
