At the moment private entities, such as corporations, are not required to uphold the Constitutional rights of United States Citizens. This allows an apartment complex to deny the display of an American flag, allows websites to request, acquire, and sell personal private information without a warrant, and allows any business to punish an individual for presenting dissenting ideas, regardless of value, with remuneration only coming years later if at all.
As government assets are increasingly considered for privatization, and as the government increasingly relies on corporations to perform actions that they are bound not to perform themselves (such as in the PRISM program), legal protections requiring corporations to abide by the Bill of Rights will ensure protection of citizens' rights.
