The fire in a Bangladesh garment factory and two similar fires in Pakistan, similar to the Triangle Shirtwaist fire here at home, prove that the lessons learned from Triangle Shirtwaist have only been applied to goods manufactured in the United States.
People in Bangladesh, in Pakistan, in every country that makes the things we buy, are as deserving of safe working conditions as US workers are, and as deserving of wages high enough to ensure that they need not work somewhere unsafe out of desperation.
Require US merchants in every industry to use only suppliers that meet the same wage and worker-safety standards required of US-based suppliers.
