Let us require all those applying for gun permits in order to purchase a handgun and assault rifles to undergo a standardized psychological evaluation. Currently, there are only simple yes or no questions inquiring about mental health that are easy to elude when applying for a gun permit. In addition to the background check required, let us also establish a system (tipline) by which the public can anonymously alert authorities about persons they believe to be dangerous if they owned a weapon.
