There are some occupations in our society that confer upon the successful applicant extraordinary authority and power. One such occupation is an officer of the police. In many cities and states in these United States, we take pause before granting an individual a loaded firearm and a badge that confers the authority to use it, insisting that the applicant first provide evidence of their maturity and mental fitness for such a job.
