I am a gun owner, in Virginia, with a permit to carry a concealed weapon. I consider these to be correct and just:
Society a responsibility to protect its citizens and if it fails to do do so, has an obligation compensate those injured. The cost of compensation should fall on those who create the risk. The exact figures can be debated, but we value a human life at about $4 million and I propose we pay the victims of firearms for the damages they suffer, and the money to pay (say) $1.5 million to parents and siblings be raised by a tax of (say) $100 per year on my hand gun, and (say) $10 on my 22 rifle. The right to bear arms is not free, the costs should fall on those who value that right, not on those who are sick of paying the costs. Tax those who are now taxing you.
